About Me!

Audrea Craig

Hello everyone! This is my story about me and how I stumble upon the passion to become a poet and to write young adult novels.

Let’s start with the basics. I was born and raised in Kentucky, the horse capital of the world. I’m the baby in my family with two crazy older brothers. I had an amazing childhood and my world turn upside down once I turned 10 years old. I ended up being diagnosed with Idiopathic Scoliosis, which was also when I discovered my love for writing poetry.

Many people don’t know what Scoliosis is, so let me explain it more before going further. Scoliosis is a disease that affects the shape of your spine but also affects your nerves, breathing, heart, and body shape. When I was diagnosed with Scoliosis, I was terrified and felt alone. So poetry was there to help me express everything I was feeling. I ended up having spinal fusion surgery at the age of 15, 2 months before my 16th birthday. So I’m no longer at risk of being in a wheelchair any time soon!

I didn’t realize how much I enjoyed creating stories until I made short stories for my friends. When I begin writing The Change For Her, that’s when I knew how much I wanted to become an author. Putting together my poems for Secret Feelings also showed me how much I can help people who are struggling with Scoliosis, depression, and many other illnesses. I want to keep writing poetries and I want to create many stories to help people escape and not feel alone in this world. Like how the Dork Diaries, the After series, Pillow Thoughts, and many Wattpad stories did for me.
